Discover Show Win Japanese Cuisine

Tucked into the heart of Northport at 325 Fort Salonga Rd #2848, Northport, NY 11768, United States, Show Win Japanese Cuisine feels like one of those spots you almost want to keep to yourself. I first stopped in on a chilly Friday evening after hearing consistent praise in local reviews, and within minutes of sitting down, I understood why this Japanese restaurant has become a neighborhood favorite.

The dining room strikes that sweet balance between cozy and polished. Soft lighting, simple wood accents, and the quiet rhythm of sushi chefs working behind the counter set the tone. If you’ve ever dined in a traditional sushi bar, you’ll recognize that comforting blend of precision and calm. The menu is extensive without being overwhelming. You’ll find classic sushi rolls, sashimi, and nigiri alongside kitchen favorites like teriyaki, tempura, and udon.

What impressed me most during my visit was the quality of the fish. According to the FDA, consuming raw seafood safely depends on proper freezing and handling procedures, and reputable Japanese restaurants follow strict guidelines to minimize risk. You can taste that level of care here. The salmon sashimi was buttery and clean, the tuna vibrant and firm. I watched the chef slice each piece with deliberate movements, a reminder that sushi-making is both craft and discipline. The California roll was fresh and well-balanced, while specialty rolls layered flavors without drowning them in sauce-a common mistake elsewhere.

Beyond sushi, the kitchen menu deserves attention. I ordered shrimp tempura, and the batter was light and crisp rather than greasy. That airy crunch comes from using cold batter and frying at the right oil temperature, typically around 350°F to 375°F. It’s a small detail, but it separates average tempura from memorable tempura. The chicken teriyaki, glazed just enough, had that subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly with steamed rice and miso soup.

Portion sizes are generous, especially for lunch specials. If you’re stopping by midday, the bento boxes are a smart pick. They offer variety-usually a protein, rice, salad, and a few pieces of sushi-making it easy to sample different flavors in one sitting. For families or groups, sharing a sushi platter is both practical and fun. I’ve done this with friends, and it turns dinner into a tasting experience.

In terms of expertise and credibility, Japanese cuisine relies heavily on freshness and knife skills. The Japan External Trade Organization often highlights how authentic preparation methods preserve natural flavors instead of masking them. That philosophy clearly influences the approach here. Ingredients shine on their own. Even the miso soup tasted layered and balanced, not overly salty.

Customer reviews frequently mention friendly service, and I can confirm that firsthand. The staff checked in at the right moments without hovering. When I asked about the difference between two specialty rolls, the server explained the ingredients clearly and even suggested a popular choice among regulars. That kind of guidance builds trust, especially if you’re new to sushi.

Pricing aligns well with other Japanese restaurants in Suffolk County. While it’s not the cheapest option in Northport, the quality justifies the cost. Fresh seafood, skilled preparation, and consistent service make it a reliable choice whether you’re planning a casual weeknight dinner or celebrating something special.

One thing to note: like many popular local spots, it can get busy on weekends. Reservations are a good idea if you’re visiting during peak hours. Parking around Fort Salonga Road is generally manageable, though you may need a few extra minutes on a crowded evening.

Overall, dining here feels intentional and well-executed. From the thoughtfully crafted menu to the steady stream of positive reviews, this Northport location has clearly earned its reputation. If you appreciate authentic Japanese flavors, careful preparation, and a welcoming atmosphere, this restaurant delivers exactly what you hope for-and then some.

  • The food was amazing as well as the service. Also, they were the most gracious and helpful when they retrieved my cell phone from behind their booth. I’m from out of town and look forward to going back the next visit.

  • Looks a little rundown from the outside but this is the classic example of “never judge a book by its cover”! Wow! Is all I can say! Food was amazing, drinks were outstanding ….Lychee Margaritas ! And one of the only places around that offer Tatami dining in private rooms! Loved everything about this place ! Staff friendly and courteous!

  • We had a really delicious dinner here. Chirashi and chicken yaki udon entrees, gyoza appetizer (no picture). The chirashi also came with a salad (or miso soup). Everything was very good. I’ve driven past the place before and not noticed it. Their lot is somewhat hidden on Ft. Salonga, you can drive by pretty quickly. But I’d certainly recommend stopping in! Parking is available on the east and west sides of the building. Their lot is sort of long and thin, with the building in its center. They were doing brisk takeout service all night, and they also offer delivery ($20 minimum).

  • Generally get take out but the few times my family has eaten there, the experience has been really good. My family's favorite sushi spot within 30 minutes of our house in Kings Park. Well worth the drive for special occasions or looking to treat yourself.
